The Salvation Army is a global nonprofit organization founded in 1866 by Catherine and William Booth. Every day the salvation Army of Greater Hickory and High Country strives to meet human needs in His name without discrimination through Alexander, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, McDowell, Watauga, and Wilkes County. We offer unique, local programs, designed to meet the specific needs of our community. Local programs includes Homeless Services, Hunger Relief, Rent and Utility Assistance, the Boys and Girls Club, Worship Services, Christmas Assistance, Family Thrift Stores, and Emergency Disaster Services.
Get involved! You can contribute to The Salvation Army in some of the following ways:
Financial Contribution
- Our various outreach programs$75-send a child to our summer camp for 1 week. $48-to provide food for a family with 1-3 members. $26-to cover 1 night stay at the Shelter of Hope.
- One Athlete for the Hickory Hawks Football Athletic Program$250
Non Perishable Items
- Shelf stable food itemsoatmeal, vienna sausage, spam, cereal, rice, pasta sauce, canned: soup, carrots, peas, tuna. Snacks: fruit cups, chips, fruit roll ups, fruit gummies, slim jims, cheese sticks, pretzels, hugs (drinks), capri suns
- Snacks to our Boys & Girls Club
Tangible Items
- Laundry detergent to our Shelter of Hope & Transitional Housing Program
Volunteer
- Help Club members with their homework (1+ hours & background check)
- Help prepare & serve dinner at the Shelter of Hope (2+ hours)
- Packing food bags at our Crisis Help Center (1+ hours)
- Teach a class at our Boys & Girls Club (1+ hours)
